Course Description

This course satisfies the learning requirements of the Level 3 City & Guilds 2919-10 and EAL 3929/3 Level 3 award and covers the installation of electric vehicle charging equipment in domestic dwellings, on-street locations and also commercial and industrial premises.

Course overview...

This online course will look at the requirements detailed in Section 722 of BS 7671:2018 (Amendment 1) as well as the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation, 4th Edition.

  • Introduction to electric vehicles - terminology used, charging modes 1 to 4, voltage and current, socket-outlets and vehicle connectors used
  • BS7671 and EV charging. The requirements of Section 722 (Amendment 1 2020)
  • Dangers of PME (TN-C-S) supply types, earthing and exposed conductive parts
  • Designing EV installations, pre installation considerations, notifications and suitability of earthing, existing equipment and location
  • Requirements for public TT, TN-S and TN-C-S supply systems and TT charging points
  • Considerations of installations in dwellings, on-street, commercial and industrial and explosive environments (ie petrol stations)
  • Inspection & testing and certification, including maintenance requirements, commissioning and DNO paperwork
  • Extra sessions covering vehicles as power storage, SMART infrastructure and wireless charging

  • Conversant with the latest version of the Wiring Regulations BS7671:2018 '18th Edition'.

  • Correct termination of pvc/pvc 'T&E' and steel wire armoured cable 'SWA'.
  • Be able to carry out an initial verification on an electrical installation and complete the necessary paperwork.

What's the difference between the C&G and EAL awards?
The C&G Level 3 qualification comprises of an on-screen multiple choice exam and a practical assessment. The EAL Level 3 qualification is only an on-screen multiple choice exam.
